| Three Kings The Three Kings were the three rulers of the demon plane. Raizen * Seiyu: Takayuki Sugō Raizen (雷禅, Raijin, meaning Zen of Thunder) was the strongest of the Three Kings, the God of War, and the strongest character in the series. Raizen, however, was nearly killed in battle and nursed back to life by a human witch doctor, who he fell in love with and impregnated with his baby. Raizen vowed to never eat another human again until he saw her again, though she died before he could, and, keeping his promise, went on starving himself for hundreds of years, and his power decreased as his hunger grew. The family line of the witch doctor continued into Yusuke Urameshi. Just minutes before starving to death, Raizen still had enough strength to fight evenly with S-Class warriors. Raizen possessed Yusuke during his battle with Sensui, and with Raizen's help Yusuke defeated Sensui. Raizen then tells Yusuke to train relentlessly for months so he will surpass Raizen and gain his kingdom before he died. Yusuke fails to do so, however, and Raizen dies without Yusuke surpassing him. Yusuke still gains Raizen's kingdom, however, and forms a tournament with Yomi and Mokuro to find a ruler for the entire demon plane. Mukuro * Seiyu: Minami Takayama Mukuro (軀, meaning Body or Corpse) was the female member of the Three Kings. Mukuro was abandoned at birth, and her adoptive father abused her in the worst ways, including rape. At the age of seven, she could take it no longer, and the formerly beautiful child poured acid on her body to escape his desires. Her stepfather, angry, had her imprisoned, and, even after escaping, could never get the shackles off her. In order to survive, Mukuro replaced the right side of her body with metal and machinery, assumed the identity of a man, and became a ruthless killer, eventually becoming strong enough to own a third of the demon plane. With a war between the Three Kings slowly forming, Mukuro calls Hiei to her side, and appoints him to her second-in-command after he defeats Shigure, who implanted Hiei with his Jagan eye, and returns his mother's tear gem, which fell in her possession, to him, revealing herself shortly afterwards. Just when Mukuro was about to start a war with Yomi, Yusuke, who had just replaced Raizen, told them about his idea to start a tournament to choose a single emperor for the demon plane, and Mukuro supports such a tournament. Mukuro ends up fighting and defeating Hiei, who frees her from her shackles during the battle, freeing her from the past. Mukuro eventually makes it into the finals, though loses to Enki, having lost the hatred that kept her at her peak. Hiei is later shown trapping her stepfather in one of Kurama's plants, which would heal any of his wounds, and 'rewarded' Mukuro with him to slice up at her leisure. At the end of the series, she lives in her palace with Hiei, her heir and friend. Yomi * Seiyu: Masashi Ebara Yomi (黄泉 meaning Hell) was the newest of the Three Kings. Yomi was once the second in command to Kurama's brigand prior to Kurama placing his soul into a mortal. Yomi, however, was reckless, losing countless men in unauthorized raids and direct confontation, thinking it more exciting that way. Kurama, angered, sent an assassin to kill Yomi, who managed to blind Yomi by cutting his eyes, but left without killing him. Yomi then grew extra ears and tuned his senses so acutely he could eventually hear all within his kingdom. Yomi eventually became a demon lord, and plotted to take over both the demon and human planes, calling on Kurama to his side. Kurama, knowing this would destroy the human plane and kill his human family, sides with Yusuke's idea to form a tournament to find a single emperor, and Yomi eventually accepts the tournament. Yomi is put up against his "son" Shura and wins. Yomi eventually goes up against Yusuke, and after their exchange of final blows, Shura's shout manages to barely keep Yomi on his feet, and Yomi is declared victor. Enki manages to defeat Yomi in his next battle, however. Yomi then leaves to properly raise and train Shura, thanking Yusuke for helping him achieve a sense of peace he could not have gotten on his own. | |
